Twofold Bay offers some of the best whale watching in Australia. The most reliable time to see whales in Twofold Bay is from late September to late November each year, while these magnificent creatures make their annual migration south to Antarctica, having spent time in the warmer northern waters. A siren is sounded at the Eden Killer Whale museum when whales are sighted in the bay. Several local companies offer whale watching cruises.

Located in the heart of Eden, the Killer Whale Museum portrays the history of whaling in the local area. The museum has a wide range of permanent exhibitions on subjects such as whaling, navigation, shipwrecks and fishing, and regularly hosts travelling and special exhibitions.

Perhaps its best known exhibit is the skeleton of "Old Tom", one of a group of killer whales that helped the local whalers by herding the baleen whales into Twofold Bay and then alerting the whalers of their presence by thrashing the water with their tails.

Alexander Davidson was a carpenter who worked for Benjamin Boyd in the 1840's. In 1866 he opened a whaling station on the shores of the Kiah Inlet at Twofold Bay. It was the longest-operating shore-based whaling station in Australia and the last of its type to close down.

Visitors can see ruins of the site as well as interpretive and explanatory text giving a unique insight into the 19th century whaling industry.

Boyds Tower is located at Red Point, on the southern headland of Twofold Bay. This imposing, twenty metre structure was built by Benjamin Boyd in 1846 from sandstone shipped from Pyrmont in Sydney.

Boyd intended the tower to be used as a lighthouse to guide home his fleet of ships, but permission to light it was never granted. It was later used as a whaling lookout. The letters B-O-Y-D are clearly visible, carved into the stones at the top of the tower.

Edrom Lodge is a beautifully preserved Federation-style home, classified by the National Trust for its period architecture and gardens as well as its magnificent landscape setting. The Lodge was originally built between 1910 and 1913 as a family residence. It is now owned by the Forestry Commission of N.S.W., and operated as a conference and education centre, available for use by education and community groups. Edrom provides an ideal setting for groups studying landscaping art and photography, as well as geology, marine biology and many other areas of study in the outdoors.

Twofold Bay is the third deepest natural harbour in the world, and Eden is home to one of the largest fishing fleets in NSW. Visitors to the area can stroll along the Eden wharf and see fishing boats of all sizes, watch them unloading their next catch, chat to the local fisherman or maybe sample the delicious local seafood from one of the many cafes and restaurants at the wharf.

In addition, a new multipurpose wharf, commissioned in late 2003, handles the larger shipping requirements of the port, including export of woodchips, softwood logs and general cargo. The wharf is 200 metres long and has approximately 6,000 square metres of paved storage area. It is shared with the Department of Defence, and handles not only visits by logging and cargo ships but also warships and cruise liners.

The controversial Harris-Daishowa Woodchip Mill offers an insight into the local timber industry. The visitors centre, on Edrom Road, provides an exhibition and slide show about the industry, past and present. It is open daily from 8am-5pm. Free guided mill tours are available on Thursdays at 10.30am, but advance bookings on (02) 6496 0222 are necessary.

A dominant feature of the local landscape is Mt Imlay, rising to a height of 886 metres. The peak of Mt Imlay offers extensive views of the coast and surrounding forest. A rare species of Eucalypt, Eucalyptus imlayensis, can be found growing on the summit.

The mountain is named after the three Imlay brothers, who played an important part in opening the Eden-Monaro district to European settlement in the 1830s and 40s.

Joy flights can be arranged from the Merimbula airport which is only a 20min drive from the Seahorse Inn. A courtesy limousine is available to convey house guests to the airport. Helicopters are no longer allowed to land at the Seahorse Inn, but can land at Merimbula airport and guests can be picked from there.

Eden is surrounded by picturesque scenery and stunning national parks and is the perfect place for the walking enthusiast. Visitors acn stroll along the unspoilt beaches, climb to the top of Mt Imlay or trek through the many beautiful forest areas, including Ben Boyd National Park.

Twofold Bay is a superb location for fishing enthusiasts. The rocky headlands around the bay offer many enticing fishing spots, while Aslings Beach is perfect for surf fishing. Eden Wharf , off Imlay St, and Cannery Wharf, off Cattle Bay Rd are also good fishing spots.

Many local companies run fishing charters. For those with their own boat, there is a four-lane boat ramp at Quarantine Bay, 3 km south of Eden, off the highway.
